WEST ARDBEG SOAPS are located in Winslow, Arizona, USA. We specialize in handmade soaps, bath salts and toiletries. Many people are curious about the origin of the name of our business. Jonee (Patterson) Bockelman is of Scottish descent, and named her soap business after her ancestral home - a place called North Ardbeg (Ardbeg, in Gaelic, means "small high place"), in the beautiful South West Highlands of Scotland. All that remains there today are ruins, mere memories of the families who left everything behind in search of a better way of life.

All our soaps are handmade in small batches, using the finest, freshest ingredients. The method used is the same as "Grandmother" used back in the "good old days," mixing fats and oils with lye and water. However, instead of using animal fats saved from cooking, we use only vegetable oils - mainly olive oil, coconut oil and palm oil. Thus, our ingredients are much more consistent, have greater properties to benefit your skin, and are always fresh and pure. Mass-produced soaps are mostly chemical-laden synthetic detergents, made with petroleum-based oils. The naturally occurring byproduct of glycerin is removed from their soaps, to be re-sold for other cosmetic uses. Handmade soaps such as ours retain that natural glycerin, which is so beneficial to the skin.

Natural essential oils and fragrance oils are used to scent our soaps. Every attempt is made to use natural colorants - which can vary from parsley to turmeric, to naturally occurring pigments such as titanium dioxide and ultramarines. FDA cosmetic-approved colorants are occasionally used.

Your fine, handmade soaps will last longer if not allowed to stand in water. The quality vegetable oils used will provide you with a luxurious, chemical-free bar of soap. Each bar is hand-trimmed and allowed to "cure" for four to six weeks before it can be sold, to ensure a harder bar - as well as completion of the saponification process. Each bar is packaged in it's own "keepsake," handmade fabric bag.

Note: Our soaps are only tested on willing friends and family, never on animals!
